I READ with amazement the response of the chief executive of Cherwell District Council (Banbury Guardian, June 25) regarding the complete waste of public funds on the picnic area at Bodicote House.
The accreditation by the Audit Commission obviously does not include the loss of millions of pounds of ratepayers' money invested in Icelandic banks.

To say this picnic area is 'a thank you to staff' I find somewhat akin to Lewis Carroll land. When I was working for a living, my thank you for doing my job was called a salary and the penalty for failing to do it properly was called the sack.

If turning a wasted area of space into something useful was the object of the exercise, then additional car parking for staff would have been far more practical and would have put an end to the inconvenience suffered by Bodicote residents with Bodicote House staff parking along the kerbsides within the village, causing congestion and hazards.

I look forward to taking a party of Bodicote residents to enjoy the subsidised staff restaurant facilities and the picnic area sometime in the very near future.
