TONY BALDRY'S aim of securing more cricket balls rather than playing with soft balls (Banbury Guardian, June 18) would be helped if his council colleagues redirected some of their millions.
Why do I not see councils placing artificial pitches on our parks?
This would be a better way of encouraging ad-hoc games amongst youngsters, as in previous eras.

The costs of local teams hiring turf pitches remains high so why not initiate artificial strips that would also enable ad-hoc work, office or pub games to take hold.

Is this too simple an idea in the year of The Ashes?
