THE £2.1million pedestrianisation of Parsons Street by Cherwell District Council presents certain anomalies which will affect the pockets of taxpayers.
Take, for example, the work proposed to be undertaken in Church Lane – an access to Parsons Street.

The council proposes to have the footpath dug up and replaced with coloured tiles.

Barely a decade has passed since there was general disruption in the lane when the council had the area dug up and paved.
Now, the same thing is to happen again.

Naturally, shopkeepers in this locale are full of acrimony by the council decision.

I do not speak on their behalf but do sympathise with them. I write as a taxpayer.

The scheme is a colossal waste of public money.
In these harsh times the outcome may prove regrettable for the council.
