CROPREDY festival will open its doors to the world's folk connoisseurs once again on Thursday – and this year marks a special celebration for headline act Fairport Convention.
Festival-goers will witness a much-anticipated set from the original 1969 Fairport Convention line-up, playing songs from their seminal album Liege and Lief as the band celebrates its 40th anniversary.
Lead singer and rhythm guitarist Simon Nicol,
who has been with the band since its inception, said: "The festival is the lynchpin of the year for Fairport.
"It's always extra special when there's a five or zero at the end and I
can't imagine the festival being any bigger or better than it is set to be this year with the original line-up.
"But without the current band working throughout the year it would just be a celebration of nostalgia.
"Thank goodness the weather has changed because this is the highlight of a lot of people's years."
Dave Pegg, bassist with the group for the past 37 years, expects an emotional reception.
"This is obviously a very special year for us as the band is celebrating its 40th anniversary and we have been running the festival for 25 years.
"Another great milestone will be the 1969 line-up playing on Friday; it will be very emotional for them."
Tickets for the three-day festival, which lasts from August 9-11 and will feature the likes of Jools Holland and Lulu, start at £41 for a day and are available from www.fairportconvention.com although some are expected to be available on the gate.
