ORGANISERS of next month's Fairport Cropredy Convention will go ahead as planned despite floods on July 20 and 21.
The annual music festival will take place in in the next fortnight on farmland near the River Cherwell.

Several of the fields used for the event are in the river's natural floodplain and were under water at the weekend. However, the festival organisers say the river level fell rapidly and the fields drained and began to dry out.

Fairport is confident that the event will go ahead as planned.

"Most of the site, including the Concert Arena, is free of flood water," says festival organsier Gareth Williams. "At the moment, a few fields beside the river are squelchy but that doesn't mean they'll still be waterlogged in two weeks time. "

"Even if the weather remains wet, we have comprehensive contingency plans in place," adds Mr Williams. "We've held the festival on the same site for well over 20 years so we've got lots of experience to draw on. Some of those summers have been very wet but we've never had to cancel yet."
