Weight loss for hospice

A FUNDRAISING event held at a Banbury pub has given Katharine House Hospice a vital cash boost.

Earlier this month about 70 people came through the doors of The Dog and Gun in North Bar for a fun-filled Saturday for the whole family.

The event was organised by Mark Petrasidis of Queens Road, Banbury as part of a charity weight loss he is undertaking in aid of the hospice.

Visitors to the pub were able to take part in poker, darts and pool tournaments and the children were entertained with face painting and other activities. Later in the evening there was also a disco and karaoke.

More than £1,300 was raised for the charity, both through donations but also through the raffle and auction that had been put on with the help of local businesses. “It was the sheer generosity and the support from these people that made the day what it was,” said Mr Petrasidis.

In addition to the smaller donations on the day, Ryan Hazell, landlord of Wonderlounge, donated £300 as did Graham Harris of The Dog and Gun.

“I’d like to thank Graham and the staff and co-ordinator Chris Baxter for all his efforts and time and general enthusiasm for the whole thing and thanks to all the shops who donated to the raffle,” said Mr Petrasidis.

He has set himself the challenge of shedding eight stones in ten months to raise £5,000 for the hospice.

At just over 12 weeks into the process, Mr Petrasidis has already lost three stones.

He hopes to hold a number of fundraisers to collect even more cash for the cause. The next event is being planned for January or February next year and the hope is to attract some big names in comedy.
