MHBG-14-02-13 1st Adderbury Chief Scouts Award 2013 Brian Sargent presents George Ding with his Chief Scouts Gold Award

A Scout at the 1st Adderbury Troop has achieved the highest award possible for his age group.

George Ding, 15, was awarded the Chief Scout’s Gold Award, which is a culmination of four years work through a difficult set of challenges and tests.

The Bloxham School pupil was given the award at a meeting on February 5 at the Adderbury Institute in front of family and friends.

District commissioner Brian Sargent said: “Today young people need to do all they can to stand out from the crowd when applying for a job or university place. The Chief Scout’s Gold Award is a great way to do that. George is to be congratulated on his hard work in completing all the challenges in this award.”

To pass the award, George completed a series of badges and took on various leadership roles, including community work at Christopher Rawlins Primary School and attending various camps.

He also completed activities including a two-day expedition, gliding, kayaking and motorsports.

Andy Green, scout leader at 1st Adderbury Troop, said: “Completing the Chief Scout’s Gold Award requires a lot of commitment, determination and self-motivation. At 1st Adderbury we are all very proud of George.”
