Alcohol thieves get prison term
THE following cases were among those heard at Banbury Magistrates’ Court between November 19 & 27:
Mark Smith, 37, of Upton Close, Woodford Halse, admitted stealing 16 bottles of wine to the value of approximately £189 from Baynards Green Service Station, to stealing champagne to the value of £55.70 from Oak Cash and Carry and to the commission of a further offence during the operational period of a suspended sentence order imposed for three offences of theft and two breaches of a conditional discharge order. He had the suspended sentence activated and was jailed for a total of 14 weeks.
Paul Smith, 39, of Upton Close, Woodford Halse, admitted stealing 16 bottles of wine to the value of approximately £189 from Baynards Green Service Station, to stealing two bottles of champagne to the value of £52.80 from Oak Cash and Carry and to the commission of a further offence during the operational period of a suspended sentence order imposed for four offences of theft. He had the suspended sentence order activated and was jailed for a total of 14 weeks.
Richard McGuigan, 22, of Cromwell Road, Banbury, admitted assault by beating and was given a community order with a five-day employment, training and education activity requirement, a 90-day community domestic violence programme and 24-month supervision requirement. He was given a restraining order against the victim until November 2014, ordered to pay £100 compensation and £85 costs.
Daniel Armitage, 25, of Broughton Road, Banbury, admitted using threatening words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress and was fined £55, ordered to pay £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
Leigh Lester, 39, of Causeway, Banbury, admitted being drunk and disorderly and assaulting a constable in the execution of duty and was fined £200, ordered to pay £20 victim surcharge, £85 costs and £50 compensation.
Rory Hourigan, 20, of Upton Close, Woodford Halse, admitted using threatening words/ behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress and was given a six-month conditional discharge, ordered to pay £15 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
Aaron Timms, 24, of Lidsey Road, Banbury, admitted possessing four £20 deals of cannabis and was given a 12-month conditional discharge, ordered to pay £15 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
Andrew Marshall, 27, of Samuelson Court, Banbury, admitted stealing a memory foam mattress to the value of £129.99 from Poundstretcher, to stealing food items to the value of £146.80 from Farm Foods and to stealing a memory foam mattress to the value of £189.99 from Poundstretcher. He was given a community order with a six-month drug rehabilitation requirement and a nine-month supervision requirement. He was ordered to pay £12.99 compensation to Poundstretcher in Lockheed Close, £18.99 compensation to Poundstretcher in Calthorpe Centre and a total of £104.64 compensation between Sainsbury’s and Co-op stores for a number of other offences taken into consideration.
Richard Bochenek, 51, of Orchard Way, Middle Barton, admitted assault by beating and was fined £375, ordered to pay £250 compensation, £37 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
Stephen Carey, 48, of Cromwell Road, Banbury, was found guilty of stealing groceries to the value of £18.96 from Tesco, to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour which was racially aggravated, to attempting to enter a dwelling as a trespasser with intent to steal, to two charges of the commission of a further offence while subject to conditional discharge orders imposed for stealing a crate of lager to the value of £23.94 from Tesco and to damaging a window to the value of £240 belonging to Katharine House Hospice. For all offences he was given a community order with an eight-week curfew requirement, ordered to pay £100 costs and a total of £120 compensation to two victims.
Tom Lee of Burford Road, Chipping Norton, was found guilty of failing to deliver vehicle registration documents to the Secretary of State and was fined £200, ordered to pay £15 victim surcharge and £90 costs.
