WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 14 - THE traditional way of wooing has been updated and brought into the 21st century by a web designer who has created the anonymous text message.
Ahead of Valentine's Day yesterday (Wednesday), Mark D'Arko launched the Moo Kiss 'flirting' website which allows would-be lovers to send messages of admiration and affection to their intendeds' mobile phones without the recipient knowing who it is f
rom.
"They can send a message back if they choose and start up a conversation by text or e-mail. But if Cupid's arrow is not welcome, he or she can go on to the Moo Kiss website and block any further communication," said Mr D'Arko of Shutford Road, North Newington.
"It's the virtual equivalent of a card or a note left on someone's windscreen.
There's no cost for setting up an account and you can pay by Pay Pal or by texting a number from your mobile phone. It works out at 22p per text and less for an e-mail."
Credits are bought at £1.50-£2 per 100 and sending messages costs anything from five to 15 credits depending on the method used.
The mookiss.com website offers a number of ready-made poems and 'flirts' which can be sent free. Every time someone picks up an e-mail, the sender will get a 'collected' message.
"There are services out there that send out anonymous text messages.
"But they're sometimes very expensive and you can't reply to them. That's why Moo Kiss is so different," said Mr D'Arko.
"People keep sending love messages all their lives, so why not do it this way? Nearly everyone has access to the internet or a mobile phone; it's cheaper and very instant.
"I guess I do think the people most likely to catch on to this will be teenagers and young people, although I think all people who have a sense of fun and zest for life will have fun sending a Moo Kiss."
