ABOUT 90 guests dressed in their finest attire for the first charity event of the new Town Mayor of Banbury.
The black tie Gilbert and Sullivan Gala Night had been organised by Banbury Operatic Society to mark 400 years of Banbury's Charter, as well as the 125th anniversary of composer Sir Arthur Sullivan's knighthood.

Members of the society performed eight shows, written by Sir Arthur in Collaboration with dramatist and poet William Gilbert, while guests enjoyed a three-course meal at the event last Thursday.

Proceeds raised from the event are being matched by Bibby Financial Services and donated to the Brodey Centre, a cancer treatment unit at The Horton Hospital.

About £1,000 is expected to be raised in total.

For further details see this week's Banbury Guardian.
