The rising cost of petrol is forcing all of us to reassess what journeys we are making in our cars. How are you being affected? Do you think there should be a petrol protest?

They're here to stay.

Banbury Guardian Comment: July 3
USE of guns to threaten and intimidate victims of crime must be dealt with swiftly and firmly.

Banbury police chiefs must be supported in whatever way they need, to send the message out loudly and clearly to those tempted, that there must be no repetition of the town’s recent experiences of gun use in robbery or assault.

Banbury has very rarely seen guns as part of its crime picture to date. We are fortunate that we live in relative peace and harmony even though we are occasionally shocked by the terrible proliferation of drug supply – with the consequent ravages of drug use – in our midst, and occasional mindless violence against innocent people as well as witless vandalism and damage to property.

While these are totally unacceptable aspects of north Oxfordshire’s crime statistics, they stop a vital element short of the paralysing effects of widespread gun use which is becoming ever more prevalent in UK cities.

We do not know the full details of last week’s threats made to innocent and law-abiding members of our society, but we have enough details to know that some unsavory characters have decided to obtain illegal firearms with which to deliberately coerce their victims into handing over hard-earned money or possessions.

Banbury councillor Kieron Mallon is right to call for calm. And while we would agree that there is no need for any kind of panic, we do make a strong call for the backing and resources needed by the police to ensure these dangerous criminals are restrained and dealt with speedily and adequately. Magistrates must deal with these perpetrators in the firmest terms, using whatever powers are at their disposal, and we must back them up.

And parents who have any inkling whatsoever that their children, or their friends, are toying with resorting to such methods of extortion should turn their offspring in to the authorities.

Proliferation of use of guns in hitherto safe places such as Banbury would be

Yes I agree Banbury needs to deal with recent gun problems but are we exaggerating the problem compared to places like London???

Waste of time effort and paper.

I`ve just received my weekly copy of "The Banbury and District Review"

It hosts a total of 3 stories on the front page, and a photo of the corner of someones head.

The rest of the paper is adverts.

Are you telling us that only 3 things have happened in and around Banbury in the last week??

Luckily I have an open fire in my lounge so the paper can be put to use. I seriously hope you dont employ reporters to work on this paper? If so it`s a waste of your money. Sack them as they`re not doing the job they`re supposed to.

I`m guessing you receive lots of cash for the adverts, so why not put that cash towards getting reporters who will make the publication worth reading?

Its a total waste of time, money, effort.

But thanks for the kindling, makes warming my house in winter easier.

Have you seen the front pages of this week's Banbury Guardian?

We are stunned that anyone would even consider disposing of their waste in such an arrogant and carefree manner. What goes through the minds of these people?

Perhaps the best punishment would be to store the rubbish, find the culprit and then dump it in their garden! I'm sure that would make them think twice.

Got to get rid of it somewhere though
